Stoudemire and Suns talking extension

Amar’e Stoudemire (notes) said Tuesday that there was "no way" he wouldn’t opt out of the contract that is set to pay him around $17 million next season. So, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Suns president of basketball operations and general manager Steve Kerr was wasting no time and meeting with Stoudemire’s agent yesterday to discuss a potential long-term deal

Suns’ Stoudemire opting out

Phoenix Suns forward Amar’e Stoudemire (notes) tells the Associated Press that there’s no way he’s not going to opt out of the contract that would pay him $17 million next season and will be a free agent on July 1. The only thing that could change that is if he re-signs with the Suns before the end of this month.

Price tag rising on Suns’ Stoudemire

It’s becoming clearer that Amar’e Stoudemire (notes) will opt out of his contract with the Phoenix Suns this summer, especially since he’s showcasing himself so beautifully in the playoffs. He could stick around Phoenix and make $17.7 million next year, but he is l ikely to make a lot more dough over the long term if he opts out now, according to the New York Times
