The man who asked for a trade last month on Turkish television will soon have his name erased from the roster of the Toronto Raptors and appearing somewhere else, according to the Arizona Republic. Phoenix Suns forward Amar’e Stoudemire (notes) tells the Associated Press that there’s no way he’s not going to opt out of the contract that would pay him $17 million next season and will be a free agent on July 1. The only thing that could change that is if he re-signs with the Suns before the end of this month.

It’s becoming clearer that Amar’e Stoudemire (notes) will opt out of his contract with the Phoenix Suns this summer, especially since he’s showcasing himself so beautifully in the playoffs. He could stick around Phoenix and make $17.7 million next year, but he is l ikely to make a lot more dough over the long term if he opts out now, according to the New York Times
